Kindergarten Facts
- JSIS kindergarten is full-day because of the immersion program.
- Class size is 28 students maximum. Our immersion program employs an Instructional
Assistant in each language classroom to reduce the student-teacher ratio and provide more
language interaction for each child. This reduces the ratio to 14:1.
- Because the state/district only pays for one full day and one half-day kindergarten for
each school, JSIS asks parents to support kindergarten excellence through a donor supported
program.
- Incoming kindergarten parents indicate their language preference in the spring.
This is sometimes done through a lottery if demand exceeds space. Preference is given to
families with an older sibling in that language, and to native speakers.
