Move-a-Thon

Got Pledges?
Pump Up Your Tires & Lace Up Your Shoes

Saturday, October 2, 2010

10:00am - 2:00pm

The MOVE-A-THON is both a celebration of motion and an old-fashioned fundraiser for JSIS. Kids get pledges from friends, family and neighbors based on either a flat amount, or the distance they anticipate traveling. Then, on Saturday, October 2, they bring their bikes, or scooters, or rollerskates, or just their feet down to the Burke-Gilman Trail and move!

Fridays, September 24 and October 1 are
Move-a-Thon Spirit Days

Wear your favorite Move-a-Thon shirt from previous years to show everyone you're getting ready for this year's event. Kindergarten students--wear something colorful to join in the fun!

Last year, participants accumulated over 1000 miles — this year, the goal is to beat 1,200 miles!!!

Beginning just before 10:00 am, students can check-in just east of Gasworks Park on the Burke-Gilman Trail and receive their Trail Card (which documents the distance they travel) and the 2010 edition of the world-famous MOVE-A-THON T-shirt. What time they start, how long they stay, and how far they travel is up to you and them. Adults will supervise the event for safety and there will be snacks and drinks provided to keep everyone fueled for moving.

There are lots of ways to help with the MOVE-A-THON, including:

  • Help your child(ren) solicit pledges from family and friends
  • Help your child(ren) get ready to move, move, move on foot or on wheels—get out on the trail NOW and practice covering some ground!
  • Volunteer with the MOVE-A-THON team to help on the DAY OF and meet dozens of other families who are helping out with advance planning and day-of logistics. Sign up for a two-hour shift to help with set-up, the main info table, the Trail Card punching area, traffic control and much, much more!
