What's New in the Playground?
RECENTLY ACCOMPLISHED:
- Relocation of the northeast corner fence; installation of new volleyball system.
- Resealed playground asphalt; awaiting sunny weather to paint new play courts.
- Developed Phase 1 construction plan and received approval from Seattle Public Schools.
- Secured financial donations of $63,000 in total - $15,000 from Department of Neighborhoods, $25,000 from LSA and $23,000 from JSIS PTSA.
WHAT’S NEXT:
By July 1st, we need $30,000 to purchase & install the new net climbing structure.
The Playground Project will then need $50,000 to complete Phase 1 (Phase 1 Drawings)
These additional funds will allow for:
- Replacement of existing ramp near current play structure and built-in concrete benches
- Bike Racks at a new west entrance
- Picnic table areas around the existing and new climbing structures
- ADA- and stroller-accessible pathway around entire play chip area
- Landscaping and more
WHY WE NEED IT:
- Our playground is already too small. The space can be better utilized to support our student body – which is increasing this fall!
- The net climbing structure offers diverse play opportunities and is designed to challenge students to develop upper body strength and coordination.
- By completing these improvements during the summer, we can avoid safety concerns, additional construction costs or delays, and restricted access for students.
Please note: The JSIS Playground Master Plan has evolved since this original version. Certain elements on the drawing (as shown below) have been redesigned due to Seattle Public School District requirements.
