A NOTE FROM MISS ARLENE

Congratulations, Fifth Graders, on a job well done!

Thank you to all the judges who helped make our science fair a great success. The students benefited from focused one-on-one attention with you and from and your thoughtful feedback.

Thank you families for your support of science. I'm certain your children will remember this as a positive experience, and I hope they continue to approach science with wonder and enthusiasm.

When: Thursday, April 14, 2011
Judging:  During the school day, from 12:30-2:30pm
Family Celebration:  In the evening, 6:30-8:00pm in the Library

Please join us for the Science Fair Family Celebration on Thursday, April 14. Your students have been working hard on their projects and are proud to share their work with you. Come see what your young scientist has achieved and take a look at what her/his classmates have also accomplished.

Purpose of the Science Fair

We are holding a Science Fair again this year, and 5th graders are required to participate. The goal is to develop the students' skills in investigation and communication when it comes to science. Students will actively be involved in designing a question, developing a hypothesis, conducting an investigation, observing processes, gathering data, tabulating results and expressing a conclusion about a project.

Judges will be recruited from the scientific community: academia, non-profit research laboraties and the private sector.

Families will be invited to see the science displays and meet the junior scientists on the evening of April 14th for a Family Celebration of Science.
