Music

JSIS is lucky to enjoy a vibrant music program, headed by Miss Katie Raschko.

Every student comes to Music twice a week for 30 minutes.  On one day each week, class takes place in the music room, where children work on music literacy, intonation, and composition.  The other class meets on the stage, where students work on instrument skills, movement to music, and improvisation.  Throughout the year students learn songs, games, and dances from around the world.

Each year, the arts disciplines focus on a specific continent.  This year, we are focusing on the continent of Asia. We will have visiting artists in residence throughout the year.  In January, students will have the opportunity to learn about some instruments and music from India.  In the spring, we will join with Hamilton International Middle School for an International Arts Celebration showcasing the music and dances we learned from our visiting teachers.
